Tackling the long tail

Tackling the long tail

The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged procurement professionals in more ways than one. Aside from the challenges of securing supply for critical components and ensuring supplier viability at a time when cash flow is under severe pressure, those in the procurement function are under more scrutiny than ever to reduce costs at a time when the global economy is faltering.

This has brought elements of spend which have previously been largely ignored, or seen as too time-consuming to tackle into focus, in particular the so-called ‘tail-end spend’, such as stationery or other low-value but potentially high-volume categories.

Read this CIPS Download report, produced in partnership with Compleat, as we explore how one of the lasting legacies of Covid-19 on procurement – both for businesses with dedicated functions and those which have yet to develop them – could be an enforced focus on finally getting tail-end spend under control.
